LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Smartphone shopping and easy printing
In this edition of Letters to the Editor, one reader is looking for the ideal smartphone, and another is looking for a more efficient print option.

Looking for the smartest smartphone
I'm interested in purchasing a device that has both the phone and Palm handheld in one. Is the new Sprint phone the answer or am I better off waiting for better equipment to hit the market? It sounds like the Sprint PCS Phone QCP-6035 by Kyocera and the upcoming full-color-screen SPH-I300 from Samsung answer my needs. Where can I find a comparison of features and benefits as well as the potential pitfalls of having the cell phone and Palm handheld in one (e.g., charging necessity, etc). Also, is it best to buy the device directly from a Sprint storefront or another cell phone storefront or online? Any idea what the price is for the Kyocera versus what the Samsung will sell for?

Editor-in-Chief David Gewirtz responds
We haven't yet gotten our hands on the new I300, so we can't do a comparison. There's a review of the Kyocera device at http://www.palmpowerenterprise.com/issues/issue200107/kyocera001.html that should answer many of your questions. I'm kind of turned on by the I300 simply because of its color, but I do like the flip-fone nature of the Kyocera device.

My take on the combined phone/handheld idea is that if you're not heavily modifying your Palm OS handheld with goodies, you can probably combine them. I'm avoiding that personally because, as editor of PalmPower, I'm constantly swapping devices to test the new stuff.

As for where to purchase, that really depends on your purchasing style. I've long liked purchasing from a local store on the belief that if something goes wrong I can return to the store and physically intimidate the salespeople into doing what I want. However, I've also had great luck with Amazon and some of the online stores. We recently did an interview with a Sprint executive (part two of that interview with Jay Highley, Vice President of Business Marketing for Sprint PCS, is running elsewhere in this issue), and he certainly seemed cool. However, I suspect if you buy the phone, you can't just give Jay a call if something goes wrong.

As always, be a smart shopper, be sure there's a good return policy, and read the reviews. If you can wait until we review the other device (due to be released this fall), it's probably a good idea.

Printing options
I really enjoyed your article on the Navy and its use of the Palm OS. Thank you for that.

I printed the article to show to my supervisors. I didn't find any way to print the entire article at one time. It printed one section and then I had to select "Next" and print the next section and so on until the entire article was printed.
