How to use ebooks in your enterprise (continued)

Despite being a happy Doc reader user (I prefer iSilo, personally) I've found it difficult in practice to bring Doc format books to the enterprise. Truthfully, the matter seems to boil down to two issues: cost and presentation. While there are a few free Doc readers, most cost money; it's difficult to justify spending money for an ebook reader when there are free alternatives such as the Palm Reader or Palm Mobile Internet Kit available. Equally important, these document readers support formatted text, including multiple type styles and typefaces.

Consequently, I prefer to recommend Doc readers only for organizations that can easily capitalize on the existing Doc volumes available. If you're a Doc fan, by all means, go ahead and keep using it! On the other hand, if you were considering ebooks for the first time, you'd do well to take a look at a Doc collection like that at MemoWare (at http://www.memoware.com). If you find a number of volumes there that satisfy your needs, and you don't need the rich layout readers such as the Palm Reader afford, consider Doc. Otherwise, you'll probably do best to stick with a solution that uses the Palm Reader or an HTML reader such as the Mobile Internet Kit.

Conclusion
Your enterprise can easily enjoy what many consumers now enjoy: the convenience of ebooks. With today's free ebook resources like the Palm Reader, it's easy to create and deploy ebooks within your organization at little cost.
