Secure your handheld data with Botzam Backup
By Steve Niles
Making sure your data is securely backed up is critical in any enterprise. Usually, we're very cafeful about backing up the data on our desktop computer systems, but it's easy to forget about all the valuable data stored on our handhelds. Botzam, Inc. has addressed this important concern with a brand new product designed to provide the user with backup and security protection. I've selected Botzam Backup as July's PalmPower Magazine Enterprise Edition Product of the Month. You can find it at http://www.botzam.com.
Botzam, Inc. was founded earlier this year by Mark Lussier and Lorraine Wheeler, the founders of Actual Software. Actual Software was the maker of MultiMail, and in May of 2000 Actual Software was purchased by Palm, Inc.
Their new product, Botzam Backup, is designed for all Palm OS devices that make use of expansion technology, including Sony MemoryStick, Compact Flash cards, and Secure Digital cards. Botzam Backup will back up data and applications onto the expansion cards and supports features like scheduling, compression, and encryption. It's pictured in Figure A.

According to Mark Lussier, Chief Technical Officer for Botzam, Inc., "Protection and security are key elements in making the transition from organizer to enterprise device. The features offered in Botzam Backup protect against accidental data loss and provides secure backups to the handheld device. As these devices are integrated into a network or mobile phone, the prevalence of hackers and viruses becomes a much more acute problem and the chance of data corruption increases."
